Allergy Relief Tips For A Quick Reprieve From The Symptoms

allergic reaction

Allergic reactions are the body's response to what it considers an attack on the body by foreign invaders. Believe it or not, the itchy eyes, sneezing, and coughing are all part of the immune system response to what it perceives as foreign bodies attacking your good health. However, when you are suffering from an allergic reaction, all you are really thinking about is getting quick allergy relief.

Even though you may feel helpless in the midst of a flare up, there are things you can do to mitigate the symptoms of an attack. Perhaps the most common way people deal with their symptoms is to take medication. There is prescription and over the counter drugs available which alleviate symptoms caused by a variety of allergens. Which ones work best for you will depend on the type and severity of your allergies.

Over the counter drugs are convenient and will work well if your allergies are fairly mild to moderate. For those with severe allergies, you may need to get prescription strength drugs to alleviate the symptoms. They come in pill or liquid form and can take a little bit of time before the medicine becomes fully effective. It may also take some trial and error before you find the right kind of medication that works for your symptoms.

Perhaps the easiest way to alleviate symptoms is to distance yourself from the source of the allergens. If cat dander bothers you then you want to avoid them as much as possible. This may mean staying away from homes of cat owners and walking around cats you see on the streets. Unless you are a glutton for punishment, you probably shouldn't pet cats under any circumstances.

Deep cleaning your home is another way to mitigate the symptoms of an allergic reaction. Your home may look spotless. Chances are good, though, that you have pet dander, mold, and other irritants trapped in your carpet, curtains, and couches. A thorough dusting and running a vacuum fitted with a HEPA filter may do the trick.

Air quality is another concern for sufferers. It can be particularly troublesome during times of the year when the pollen count is high. Use a good quality air filter designed to eliminate 99% or better allergens in the air that are affecting your health. You can find them at brick and mortar stores as well as online retailers.

If for some reasons you just are not finding relief, as a last resort you can wear a face mask. These masks are meant to prevent the spread of germs and viruses but can also be used to ward off allergens trying to incite your immune system to riot. You can also find these at drug stores, grocery stores, and pharmacies.

Obtaining quick allergy relief is the goal of many people who are stricken suddenly with symptoms. However, you are not helpless. There are things you can do to quell the flare up quickly. Employ one or all of these tips to bring peace to your body.
